Zeit reflects on the finite nature of existence, on time as both a measure and a condition we can never fully grasp or control. The work confronts the viewer with a simple yet unavoidable premise: we are moving toward an end, whether we acknowledge it or not.
The sculpture presents a partial skull emerging from marble, caught between formation and erosion. It can be positioned both upright and lying down, introducing a subtle instability a reminder that time does not move in a fixed direction from our perspective, even though its outcome is certain.
On the reverse side, the word Zeit is carved directly into the stone. The gesture is direct, almost declarative. Time is not abstract here; it is embedded, materialized, made permanent within a medium historically associated with endurance and legacy.
This duality becomes central to the work. Marble suggests permanence, yet the skull speaks of decay. One element resists time, the other is defined by it. Together, they create a tension between what remains and what inevitably disappears.
Zeit raises fundamental questions: What do we do with the time we are given? What do we fail to reach? What truly matters, and what is left behind?
There is no resolution offered. Only a quiet confrontation with urgency.
Time passes regardless.
