The Beginning of the End explores the fragile intersection between birth, life, and mortality. Carved in white marble, the heart, traditionally a symbol of vitality, love, and origin is recontextualized as something both enduring and deeply vulnerable.
The surface is marked by ruptured veins, frayed and torn, as if the heart has been forcefully removed. This gesture introduces a physical and emotional tension: what should sustain life instead bears the traces of damage, loss, and interruption. The heart is no longer protected, it is exposed, displaced, and irrevocably altered.
At its core, the work reflects on the inevitability that every beginning carries within it an end. Life does not move linearly toward completion; it accumulates impact. The marks we carry, emotional, relational, existential become part of our structure.
The sculpture is also rooted in personal memory. It holds an intimate connection to loss, to the absence of someone who remains present in a different form. At the same time, it expands outward: the heart as a vessel of attachment, where certain individuals leave a permanent imprint, regardless of time or distance.
Marble, with its historical association to permanence, intensifies the paradox. The material suggests endurance, yet the form speaks of rupture. What is broken is made lasting. What is lost becomes fixed.
The Beginning of the End does not separate life and death it binds them. It acknowledges that to exist, to feel, to love, is also to risk fracture.
And yet, the heart remains.
